What to Bring When You Sell

Selling gold takes about as long as a bank errand. Bringing the right things makes it faster.

A Government Issued Photo ID

This one is not optional. Virginia law requires precious metals dealers to record a valid photo identification for every purchase. A driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID all work. Without one we cannot complete a purchase, no matter how straightforward the transaction is.

Your Items, Exactly As They Are

Do not clean, polish, or repair anything first. Polishing can remove metal and can damage the finish on a collectible piece, which occasionally lowers the value rather than raising it. Bring items broken, tangled, and unmatched. None of that reduces what the gold is worth.

Bring everything you are considering, even the pieces you assume are worthless. Costume jewelry sometimes hides a solid gold clasp, and people regularly bring in a box expecting nothing from half of it.

Any Paperwork You Have

  • Certificates for diamonds, such as a GIA report
  • Previous appraisals, if you have them
  • Boxes and papers for luxury watches, which genuinely affect value
  • Receipts for designer pieces

None of this is required. It helps when it exists.

What to Expect

We weigh and test in front of you and explain the offer. Most visits take fifteen to twenty minutes. Larger estates and collections take longer. You are paid the same day if you accept, and you owe nothing if you decline.
